Service

Service is at the core of SBMC — not as an initiative, but as a responsibility to the families and organizations that make up our community. We focus on showing up where there are immediate needs, whether that’s putting food on tables, keeping kids warm, or helping local partners expand access to essential resources. More than 70% of our annual budget is reinvested directly into this work.

Over the past year, that commitment has taken many forms — from raising over $15,000 in grocery gift cards through Groceries for Good to support families impacted by frozen SNAP benefits, to providing holiday meals alongside St. Monica’s, and stepping in to support families through seasonal programs like Ollie Holiday Helpers and the David Biele Toy Drive.

We’ve also supported families in more targeted ways, funding winter coat drives for children, contributing to holiday meal programs, and filling small but critical gaps where support is needed most.

In addition to direct family support, we are proud to stand behind the organizations doing long-term work across our neighborhood by sponsoring local partners’ annual fundraiser events, including the Condon Gala, Julie’s Gala, Ollie Gala, Laboure Center, Emma’s Footprints, and Fourthfest, as well as funding En Accion’s fall field trip for teens.

One of the most meaningful projects this year was our partnership with Ollie Diaper Depot, where we supported the cleanup and completion of a new shipping container that expands access to essential baby supplies for families in need. Ollie has now distributed over 1.2 million diapers and supported more than 26,000 children, and we are proud to play a small part in helping that reach grow.

This work is not about one-off contributions — it’s about consistency, responsiveness, and a belief that strong communities are built when people keep showing up for each other.

Community

Community is where SBMC comes to life in a more personal way — creating space for moms to connect, build friendships, and feel supported through every stage of motherhood. What starts as a simple meetup often becomes a network of real relationships that carry through the hardest and most joyful parts of raising young kids.

Throughout the year, we host structured playgroups for new moms organized in three-month cohorts based on due dates and birth months, helping ensure women are connecting with others in the same stage of motherhood. In addition to these core groups, we host regular park and library playdates, beach meetups in the summer, and informal gatherings designed to make it easy for moms to show up as they are.

We also prioritize connection beyond the kids — with moms’ nights out and social events that give space for conversation, friendship, and a break from the day-to-day demands of parenting.

At its core, our community programming is about reducing isolation and making sure no mom feels like she has to navigate early motherhood alone.
